AOYS Continuing Education And Renewals
How many Continuing Education (CE) Modules does a student have access to after successful completion of the online training program and for how long can they access these training modules?
Once a student has successfully completed their online training modules for the 8 Functions of Command, they can print their completion certificate and there will be four (4) CE modules that are immediately available to the student for the remainder of their first one (1) year subscription. If a student does not renew their subscription at the end of their 365 day subscription period, they will NOT have access to any on-line training material, even if they did not complete all of their available CE modules.
These four (4) Continuing Education (CE) modules will be available to the student for the remainder of their 1 year subscription. If the student completes their online training with 200 days remaining in their subscription, they will have those 200 days to finish their four (4) Continuing Education modules. If (on the other hand) the student completes the online training with only 10 days remaining in their subscription, they will only have those 10 days to finish their four (4) Continuing Education Modules.
Are there different annual renewal options once someone becomes a Certified Blue Card IC?
Yes. There are two options available for annual renewal once certified as a Blue Card Incident Commander.
The first option is to renew for full access of the online training system for a cost of $90.00/year (US Funds). This renewal option provides the Blue Card IC with the following items:
- Continued access to all core training modules (i.e. the 8 Functions of Command), originally completed during he online portion of the program,
- Access to four (4) CE Modules (4 hours duration each) released one per quarter of the 12 months of the renewal year. This is an additional 16-20 hours of online training,
- Continued access to the Fire Command E-Text Book Series,
- Instructors will have access to the individual student Tracking, Certification and Recertification records, and Event Management RMS tools
As a second renewal option, certified Blue Card IC’s may elect to renew their RMS Tools [only] for $24.00/year (US Funds). This renewal option provides access to all tracking Certification RMS tools, as well as access to all Continuing Education and Recertification RMS tools. This option does not provide quarterly CE module access.
Are additional Continuing Education (CE) Modules available beyond the first year of the subscription?
Yes. Blue Card provides four (4) Continuing Education (CE) Modules with every one (1) year online subscription. A student who has renewed their subscription with the $90.00 (US Funds) option, will receive an additional 4 CE modules during their one (1) year renewal period (1 new CE module will become available every 90 days) along with access to any other CE modules that have been activated during any previous 1 year subscription period.

Are certification dates and subscription renewal dates for Certified Blue Card IC’s the same thing?
No. The Certification Date is the date established 36 months past your date of certification date in the simulation-evaluation lab. It is within this time period that you must obtain 36 hours of CE credit and be re-certified as Incident Commander No. 1 and Incident Commander No. 2 for each of the five building types addressed in the Blue Card Command Program in order to be eligible for re-certification.
The Subscription Date is the annual date for renewal of your online subscription. A student who renews their annual subscription with the $90.00 (US Funds) option, will receive an additional year of access to the online program as well as an additional 4 CE modules to complete during that one (1) year renewal period (1 new CE module will become available every 90 days) along with access to any other CE modules that have been activated during any previous 1 year subscription period.
Will the Certification Date always remain the same for each Blue Card IC?
Each Blue Card IC will retain the same Certification Date provided that they have recertified prior to the end of their 3 year (36 month) deadline. The maximum time a student can let their IC certification expire is 30 days. Thirty (30) days after the expiry date, the student will be required to go through the entire training program again in order to recertify (online program and a simulation lab).
What components make up the Continuing Education and 3 year re-certification process for Blue Card Command Officers?
After the student has successfully passed the evaluation lab and has obtained their local, Type 4 & 5 Incident Commander Certification, they will be required to have no less than 12 hours of continuing education in strategic and tactical command training each year over a 3 year certification cycle. The Type 4 & 5 command certification will be valid for a 3-year period from the date the sim lab evaluation process is completed. At the end of the 3 year certification period, the student will need to have at least 36 CE hours, along with successfully passing their IC evaluation requirements in order to have successfully maintained the cognitive and manipulative skills achieved through initial completion of the program.
What is the recertification process for a Certified Blue Card Commander who has completed the requirements for 36 CE credit hours and recertification as IC No. 1 and IC No. 2 on each of the five (5) building types?
If the certified Blue Card IC has obtained at least 36 hours of CE credit and been reevaluated as IC No. 1 and IC No. 2 on all five (5) building types, he/she will receive an email 90 days prior to the end of the 36 month renewal date notifying them that they are eligible to re-certify their Blue Card status by completing a online program review package and “RECERT TEST.” This online review is approximately 5 hours in duration, reviews each of the 8 Functions of Command, and concludes with a 40-question test (i.e. 5 questions for each module). Upon successful completion of the RECERT TEST, the program instructor and Blue Card will automatically be notified of the success and new credentials will be sent to the student.
